🙌 The G.R.I.P. Method: Your AI Cheat Code for Teaching 🎯

What up, fam!!

If you’re currently on Spring Break, WHAT ARE YOU DOING READING THIS! Throw that phone in the ocean and let Verizon figure it out when you get back! (jkjk please don’t do that) 😂

If you’re back from Spring Break, LEZ GET IT!

Here’s the skinny like a latte:

I want to help you knock out your summer PD hours.

Hopefully, I’m doing that in-person at a school or conference near you (so we can meet in real-life and talk about our feelings)!

For everyone else who wants me to help them subtract Summer PD hours AND/OR get better cause they want to, I’m going to be releasing free virtual trainings (and a few non-free virtual trainings) in the next few weeks.

One virtual training that took me wayyyyyy too long to make is the 6-Hour PD titled: The A.I. Teacher Playbook Summit

  • (If you’re paying for it) Join the Honor Roll for full access to the AI Teacher Playbook Virtual Summit.

  • (If your school is paying for it) Get your ticket to attend the AI Teacher Playbook Virtual Summit here.

  • (If you’re a principal) Get access to the AI Teacher Playbook Virtual Summit here FOR EVERY TEACHER AT YOUR SCHOOL! #teamwork 😁

Now, in true Tarver Academy fashion (is it talking in the 3rd person if I use the website name?😂🤦🏼‍♂️), I just HAD to give y’all some of the Summit for free!!

Below this little line with my logo on it is a snippet of the AI Teacher blah blah Summit, along with the corresponding playbook section!

This particular session walks you through a template called The G.R.I.P. Method, and can help you write stellar prompts to impress people and save you time!!

ENJOY AND I LOVE YOU AND HOPEFULLY I SEE YOU THIS SUMMERRRRR!

The GRIP Method Breakdown

  • G (Goal): What do you want AI to create? Be specific!

  • R (Return Format): How should AI deliver it? Lesson plan? Quiz? Game?

  • I (Identify Issues): What should AI avoid? Keep it focused.

  • P (Prior Knowledge): What context or details should AI prioritize?

Section 2: GRIP in the Classroom 🏫

  • Use GRIP to build lesson plans in minutes ⏳

  • Real-world classroom examples ✏️

Section 3: Making AI Work Smarter 🧠

  • How to tweak AI responses for better results 🔄

  • Troubleshooting common AI issues ⚠️

Step-by-Step GRIP Guide 📖

Step 1: Define Your Goal (G) 🏁

State exactly what you need.

  • Example: "I need a fun, interactive study guide on the Revolutionary War."

Step 2: Choose the Return Format (R) 📑

Specify how AI should format the response.

  • Example: "Make it a fillable workbook for classroom use."

Step 3: Identify Problems to Avoid (I) 🚫

Anticipate AI pitfalls.

  • Example: "No generic summaries—use real-world applications!"

Step 4: Add Prior Knowledge (P) 🎓

Give AI the right context to work with.

  • Example: "Use these historical facts from my lesson notes."

Make AI Work for YOU: Custom Teacher Prompts ✨

How to Tailor GRIP to Your Lesson Planning:

  1. Pick a lesson topic 🏀

  2. Choose the format (worksheet, quiz, study guide) 📄

  3. List potential pitfalls (avoid over-complication, off-topic info) ❌

  4. Provide personal resources (lesson plans, key points) 📚

Fill in the blanks to create your own AI prompt:

"I need __________ for my class, formatted as __________. Avoid/include __________ and use these materials: __________."

There ya go!

I hope this little acronym (teachers needed one more of those 😂) helps you visualize how to write prompts that help and aren’t generic!

Remember, every virtual trainings I’m doing (plus this Summit that I’ll turn into course) is available to Honor Roll peeps!

Hope the rest of your school year goes better than the 2017 Golden State Warriors playoff run!

Thanks and much love!!
