🎓Don't Overdo it.

  • What Teacher Conferences do you recommend for teachers?

    • I was wanting to apply to speak at some more conferences and would LOVE to know which ones you get the most out of!

Don’t Overdo it

How are you?

No, for real.

How. are. you?

Teaching is a stressful profession.

I remember regurgitating a stat about the only profession that makes more decisions in a day than teachers is an air traffic control person. No idea if it’s true, but what is true anymore AMIRITE???? jkjk

But for real, your mentals matter.

Find something that allows you to check out and relax.

Whether it’s reading or tiktok or sports cards or law & order svu, make sure it’s in your calendar.

You’ve earned the right to relax.

P.S. Don’t stay late. My mom did that for years. Just because you leave on time after work, doesn’t mean you don’t care. It means you also care about yourself.

RESOURCES: Student Mental Health Check-ins

Are you doing a check-in with students daily to see how they’re feeling?

If not, I got a couple resources that both have that option. I’d recommend taking a glance at it at the beginning of class (while they’re doing their Bell Ringers).

How does this help my classroom?

  • Get a look at if a student isn’t feeling it

  • Can prevent misdirected student frustration

  • Requires students to reflect on things that are positive in their life!

THE RESOURCES:

Seriously.

We gotta check-in on them.

They’re humans, too.

It’s important to know where they’re at in they mentalssss.

TRAINING OF THE WEEK: Teacher Mental Health Best Practices

A while back, I had the chance to sit down with my good friend and professional therapist, Dr. Kevin Atkinson. We talked through different tips and tricks for teachers to be their fullest selves. Then, the second half, I talk with my friend and fellow teacher, Lindsay Fell, about practical stuff we’ve done to get our heads right.

Please, take some time to listen to this on your drive home.

Get some ideas,

Stay good.

You deserve it.

Also (just for you “read til the end of the email cause you’re THE BEST EVER AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT” teachers), I’d like to be open and honest with you (more than usual 😂)…

This email is coming out a little later than I normally try to do. I’ve been trying to send y’all a new email every Monday (unless I hit my max on Squarespace) with a new template or resource or thoughts or just some teacher funzies.

The reason I waited a few days is cause I’ve been working on a big AI Virtual Summit for Teachers with some mega resources you can have (even if you don’t attend the Summit).

SPOILER ALERT: It’s a practical AI Playbook.

But it’s a lot of work. I really want it to be good and helpful and to word it in a way that you love it more than you’re last trip to Texas Roadhouse. 😂🤷

So, I say that to say…be on the lookout for the next email.

It’s a biggie even if I try to act nonchalant about it.

Cause if I don’t finish it by next week imma lose my mind and you’ll probably see me convert this entire email into a Timothée Chalamet Fan Email list or something. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I dunno, this whole ending is just a brain dump.

I sincerely apologize.

I think you’re great.

Love y’all.

For real.

Thank you.
