🎓 Free AI Policy Template, IEP/504 Automator, & Testing Season OH MY! 🧸

⏰ TL;DR

👋 REAL TALK

I know a lot of y’all are trying to get a jump on testing season like Michael Jordan in a dunk contest, and if you’re feeling that low-level of dread filling up your soul, you’re not alone! 😂

One thing I learned the hard way: students don’t forget everything…it just needs to hit their feed again. Research backs this up.

Retrieval practice and spaced review (bringing old content back in small, low-pressure ways [aka Bell Ringers]) significantly improves recall and test performance!

That’s why I loved using:

  • A quick bell ringer pulling something from last semester (even if it’s just watching a quick YouTube viddie from someone else)

  • Or a 2–4 minute end-of-class “remember dis?” moment where you hit the refresh button in their brain browser

TBH, my fav of the 2 is just tossing up a short YouTube video. Mine. Someone else’s. Didn’t matter.

When students see something they’ve learned before, it’s like scrolling past an old post on social media. Suddenly their brain goes, “Oh yeah… I remember that lil chicken nugget.”

Small refreshers.

Low prep.

Big payoff.

🧩 Free Resource of the Week - Classroom AI Policy (Make a Copy + Edit Freely)

Here’s the AI policy I wish I had when all this started.

Use it. Change it. Delete anything you don’t like (I’m not your boss 😁).

That said, there are two lines in this policy I love the most:

  1. Students must ask for approval before using any AI tool.
Even if your answer is always “no,” now students are bringing it to you instead of using tools quietly behind your back. Snitches get pizza parties.

  2. Any assignment or assessment is subject to a verbal review with the teacher.
If a student can’t explain what they turned in, they retake it by hand on a fresh sheet of paper and earn whatever score they earn. Sorry lil Johnny, you aint’ lil Johnny Grisham.

I just haven’t seen an AI detector that is reliable enough to start tossing out zeroes like someone who loves tennis.

This way, it’s not punishment. It’s accountability.

Hopefully this can save you some stress and second-guessing!

🛠️ Tech Tip

📚 See who is (actually) doing the work in Google Slides, and for how long!!

Google Slides Revision History leveled up!

They started with telling us if kids be copy/pasting into a Google Doc. But now it can do the same for your Google Slides!! You can see:

  • Who edited

  • What they added/edited

  • How long they were actually working!

This is clutch for group projects.

No more guessing who did the work.
No more awkward “everyone says they helped” conversations when you know Hermione be carrying them like a Book 7 field trip!

It’s not a gotcha game. It’s about clarity and fairness!

P.S. The free version should be enough for 99% of y’all, but if you (or your school) wants the premium version, promo code TARVER should get you 20% off! 🙌

💎 Gem/GPT of the Week

IEP/504 Accommodation Adapter ➡️ Gemini // Opal // ChatGPT

What This GEM/GPT Does (for Teachers)

The idea is that this lil GEM/GPT can be your IEP/504 co-teacher, the one who helps you adapt assignments without lowering expectations a lottttt faster and better than if we were riding solo like Jason Derulo!

You toss in:

  • Your lesson, assignment, or assessment

  • The learning objective

  • The student’s IEP or 504 accommodations

It gives you:

  • ✅ A clear breakdown of what stays the same (so rigor is protected)

  • ✅ Practical, classroom-ready supports that match the plan you had

  • ✅ A teacher checklist so accommodations actually get implemented

  • ✅ Optional alternate ways for students to show mastery

Why You Might Like It

It helps you:

  • Save time

  • Stay aligned with accommodations

  • Support students without guessing

  • Document that you implemented the plan

  • Feel confident you did it right

This isn’t about being lazy, it’s about making learning accessible, intentional, and defensible, cause you already got more on your plate than an 18-year old me at Cici’s Pizza!

Think of it as the co-teacher who keeps you compliant, focused, and saneeeeeee, so you can focus on teaching and being the GOAT!! 🐐
